ഹനൂമാൻ അഥ സുഗ്രീവനിർദ്ദിഷ്ടോ രാമലക്ഷ്മണൗ /

പ്രാപ്യ ജ്ഞാത്വാ തു വൃത്താന്തം തേന തൗ സമയോജയത് //            /1 //

हनूमान् अथ सुग्रीवनिर्द्दिष्टो रामलक्ष्मणौ /

प्राप्य ज्ञात्वा तु वृत्तान्तं तेन तौ समयोजयत् //            /१ //

hanūmān atha sugrīva niRddiṣṭō rāmalakṣmaṇau /

pRāpya jñātvā tu vr̥ttāntaṁ tēna tau samayōjayat //            /1 //

ஹனூமான்ʼ அத² ஸுக்³ரீவனிர்ʼத்³தி³ஷ்டோ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ /

ப்ராப்ய ஜ்ஞாத்வா து வ்ருʼத்தாந்தம்ʼ தேன தௌ ஸமயோஜயத் //            /1 //

Obeying SRee-sugreeva's suggestion, SRee-Hanuman approached SRee-rAma and Prince lakshmaNa.  After listening to the details of their exile in the forest, its reason, etc. He  arranged for their mutual meeting.  /1/

തതോ രാമസ്യ  വൃത്താന്തം സുഗ്രീവായ നിവേദ്യ സഃ /

സഖ്യം ച കാരയാമാസ തയോഃ പാവക സന്നിധൗ //                 /2 //

ततो रामस्य  वृत्तान्तं सुग्रीवाय निवेद्य सः /

सख्यं च कारयामास तयोः पावक सन्निधौ //                 /२ //

tatō rāmasya  vr̥ttāntaṁ sugrīvāya nivēdya saḥ /

sakhyaṁ cha kārayāmāsa tayōḥ pāvaka sannidhau //                 /2 //

ததோ ராமஸ்ய  வ்ருʼத்தாந்தம்ʼ ஸுக்³ரீவாய நிவேத்³ய ஸ​: /

ஸக்²யம்ʼ ச காரயாமாஸ தயோ​: பாவக ஸன்னிதௌ⁴ //                 /2 //

Afterwards, SRee-Hanuman informed sugreeva of the abduction of SRee-seetA, and had the two parties enter into a pact in the presence of Agni as the sacred witness. /2/

പ്രതിജജ്ഞേ തദാ രാമോ  ഹനിഷ്യാമീതി ബാലിനം /

ദർശയിഷ്യാമി വൈദേഹീം ഇത്യന്യേന ച സംശ്രുതം //                   /3 //

प्रतिजज्ञे तदा रामो  हनिष्यामीति बालिनं /

दर्शयिष्यामि वैदेहीं इत्यन्येन च संश्रुतं //                   /३ //

pRatijajñē tadā rāmō  haniṣyāmīti bālinaṁ /

daRśayiṣyāmi vaidēhīṁ ityanyēna cha saṁśRutaṁ //                   /3 //

ப்ரதிஜஜ்ஞே ததா³ ராமோ  ஹனிஷ்யாமீதி பா³லினம்ʼ /

த³ர்ʼஸ²யிஷ்யாமி வைதே³ஹீம்ʼ இத்யன்யேன ச ஸம்ʼஸ்²ருதம்ʼ //                   /3 //

Then SRee-rAma took an oath that He will destroy BAli (sugreeva's enemy) and SRee-sugreeva took the pledge to help discover the missing Princess seetA.  /3/

സുഗ്രീവേണാഥ രാമായ ഭ്രാതൃവൈരസ്യ കാരണം /

നിവേദിതം അശേഷം ച ബലാധിക്യം ച തസ്യ തത് //                      /4 //

सुग्रीवेणाथ रामाय भ्रातृवैरस्य कारणं /

निवेदितं अशेषं च बलाधिक्यं च तस्य तत् //                      /४ //

sugrīvēṇātha rāmāya bhRātr̥vairasya kāraṇaṁ /

nivēditaṁ aśēṣaṁ cha balādhikyaṁ cha tasya tat //                      /4 //

ஸுக்³ரீவேணாத² ராமாய ப்⁴ராத்ருʼவைரஸ்ய காரணம்ʼ /

நிவேதி³தம்ʼ அஸே²ஷம்ʼ ச ப³லாதி⁴க்யம்ʼ ச தஸ்ய தத் //                      /4 //

Thereafter, SRee-sugreeva informed the Prince about the history of the hostilities between himself and his brother BAli and about the excess of martial strength that BAli possessed.    /4/

തത് ക്ഷണം ദുന്ദുഭേഃ കായം സുഗ്രീവേണ പ്രദർശിതം /

സുദൂരം പ്രേഷയാമാസ പാദാംഗുഷ്ഠേന രാഘവഃ //                  /5 //

तत् क्षणं दुन्दुभेः कायं सुग्रीवेण प्रदर्शितं /

सुदूरं प्रेषयामास पादांगुष्ठेन राघवः //                  /५ //

tat kṣaṇaṁ dundubhēḥ kāyaṁ sugrīvēṇa pRadaRśitaṁ /

sudūraṁ prēṣayāmāsa pādāṁguṣṭhēna rāghavaḥ //                  /5 //

தத் க்ஷணம்ʼ து³ந்து³பே⁴​: காயம்ʼ ஸுக்³ரீவேண ப்ரத³ர்ʼஸி²தம்ʼ /

ஸுதூ³ரம்ʼ ப்ரேஷயாமாஸ பாதா³ங்கு³ஷ்டே²ன ராக⁴வ​: //                  /5 //

Immediately, (in order to prove His own prowess), SRee-rAma threw the dead body of dundubhi  --  which was pointed out to Him by sugreeva -- using His big toe far off into the distance ( -- a feat only a hero could perform).

പുനശ്ച ദർശിതാംസ്തേന സാലാൻ സപ്ത രഘൂത്തമഃ /

ബാണേനൈകേന ചിച്ഛേദ  സാർദ്ധം  തസ്യാനുശങ്കയാ //                     /6 //

पुनश्च दर्शितांस्तेन सालान् सप्त रघूत्तमः /

बाणेनैकेन चिच्छेद  सार्द्धं  तस्यानुशङ्कया //                     /६ //

punaścha daRśitāṁstēna sālān sapta raghūttamaḥ /

bāṇēnaikēna chiccHēda  sāRddhaṁ  tasyānuśaṅkayā //                     /6 //

புனஸ்²ச த³ர்ʼஸி²தாம்ʼஸ்தேன ஸாலான்ʼ ஸப்த ரகூ⁴த்தம​: /

பா³ணேனைகேன சிச்சே²த³  ஸார்ʼத்³த⁴ம்ʼ  தஸ்யானுஸ²ங்கயா //                     /6 //

Then SRee-rAma also felled seven sAla trees that sugreeva showed Him (standing in a crooked line) using a single arrow!! With that the Lord destroyed sugreeva's doubts about Him ( and any doubt about His ability to defeat the incredibly strong BAli).

കിഷ്കിന്ധാം പ്രാപ്യ സുഗ്രീവസ്തതോ രാമസമന്വിതഃ /

ജഗർജാതീവ സംഹൃഷ്ട: കോപയൻ വാനരാധിപം //                          /7 //

किष्किन्धां प्राप्य सुग्रीवस्ततो रामसमन्वितः /

जगर्जातीव संहृष्ट: कोपयन् वानराधिपं //                          /७ //

kiṣkindhāṁ pRāpya sugrīvastatō rāma samanvitaḥ /

jagaRjātīva saṁhr̥ṣṭa: kōpayan vānarādhipaṁ //                          /7 //

கிஷ்கிந்தா⁴ம்ʼ ப்ராப்ய ஸுக்³ரீவஸ்ததோ ராமஸமன்வித​: /

ஜக³ர்ʼஜாதீவ ஸம்ʼஹ்ருʼஷ்ட: கோபயன்ʼ வானராதி⁴பம்ʼ //                          /7 //

Thereafter, SRee-sugreeva entered KishkinddhA in the company of Lord rAma and with confidence and happiness in his heart he roared fiercely (showing his trust in his powerful ally and to challenge his enemy), which angered BAli. 

ബാലീ നിഷ്ക്രമ്യ സുഗ്രീവം സമരേ ഽപീഡയത്   ഭൃശം  /

സോ ഽപി സംഭഗ്നസർവാംഗഃ പ്രധാവത്  രാഘവാന്തികം //              /8 //

बाली निष्क्रम्य सुग्रीवं समरेऽपीडयत्   भृशं  /

सोऽपि संभग्नसर्वांगः प्रधावत्  राघवान्तिकं //              /८ //

bālī niṣkRamya sugrīvaṁ samarē 'pīḍayat   bhr̥śaṁ  /

sō 'pi saṁbhagna saRvāṁgaḥ pRadhāvat  rāghavāntikaṁ //              /8 //

பா³லீ நிஷ்க்ரம்ய ஸுக்³ரீவம்ʼ ஸமரே (அ)பீட³யத்   ப்⁴ருʼஸ²ம்ʼ  /

ஸோ (அ)பி ஸம்ப⁴க்³னஸர்ʼவாங்க³​: ப்ரதா⁴வத்  ராக⁴வாந்திகம்ʼ //              /8 //

BAli came out to fight with his brother sugreeva and in the battle, sugreeva was hurt badly and with wounds and pain all over his limbs, he retreated and ran back to SRee-rAma.

കൃതചിഹ്നസ്തു രാമേണ  പുനരേവ  സ ബാലിനം /

രണായാഹ്വയത ക്ഷിപ്രം തസ്ഥൗ രാമസ്തിരോഹിതഃ //                       /9 //

कृतचिह्नस्तु रामेण  पुनरेव  स बालिनं /

रणायाह्वयत क्षिप्रं तस्थौ रामस्तिरोहितः //                       /९ //

kr̥tacihnastu rāmēṇa  punarēva  sa bālinaṁ /

raṇāyāhvayata kṣipRaṁ tasthau rāmastirōhitaḥ //                       /9 //

க்ருʼதசிஹ்னஸ்து ராமேண  புனரேவ  ஸ பா³லினம்ʼ /

ரணாயாஹ்வயத க்ஷிப்ரம்ʼ தஸ்தௌ² ராமஸ்திரோஹித​: //                       /9 //

Then SRee-rAma marked sugreeva (so that he could be distinguished from his brother in close combat). Thereupon, sugreeva went to Bali and challenged him again to a fight with SRee-rAma hiding nearby.

ഹേമമാലീ തതോ ബാലീ താരയാഭിഹിതം ഹിതം /

നിരസ്യ കുപിതോ ഭ്രാത്രാ രണം ചക്രേ സുദാരുണം //                       /10 //

हेममाली ततो बाली तारयाभिहितं हितं /

निरस्य कुपितो भ्रात्रा रणं चक्रे सुदारुणं //                       /१० //

hēmamālī tatō bālī tārayābhihitaṁ hitaṁ /

nirasya kupitō bhRātRā raṇaṁ chakRē sudāruṇaṁ //                       /10 // 

ஹேமமாலீ ததோ பா³லீ தாரயாபி⁴ஹிதம்ʼ ஹிதம்ʼ /

நிரஸ்ய குபிதோ ப்⁴ராத்ரா ரணம்ʼ சக்ரே ஸுதா³ருணம்ʼ //                       /10 //

(Angered by the challenge), and disregarding his wife tArA's sagely advice (not to go out to fight), BAli went out wearing a gold chain and encountered his brother in a ferocious combat.

ബാണേന ബാലിനം രാമോ വിദ്ധ്വാ ഭൂമൗ ന്യപാതയത് /

സോ ഽപി രാമ ഇതി ജ്ഞാത്വാ ത്യക്ത്വാ ദേഹം ദിവം യയൗ //                         /11 //

बाणेन बालिनं रामो विद्ध्वा भूमौ न्यपातयत् /

सो ऽपि राम इति ज्ञात्वा त्यक्त्वा देहं दिवं ययौ //                         /११ //

bāṇēna bālinaṁ rāmō viddhvā bhūmau nyapātayat /

sō 'pi rāma iti jñātvā tyaktvā dēhaṁ divaṁ yayau //                         /11 //

பா³ணேன பா³லினம்ʼ ராமோ வித்³த்⁴வா பூ⁴மௌ ந்யபாதயத் /

ஸோ (அ)பி ராம இதி ஜ்ஞாத்வா த்யக்த்வா தே³ஹம்ʼ தி³வம்ʼ யயௌ //                         /11 //

SRee-rAma shot an arrow at BAli (while the two brothers were fighting) and felled him to the ground.  BAli, knowing that he was killed by the divine SRee-rAma, (and as a result of it) went to svaRlOkam leaving the earthly body.

പശ്ചാത്തപന്തം സുഗ്രീവം സമാശ്വാസ്യ രഘൂത്തമഃ /

വാനരാണാം അധിപതിം ചകാരാശ്രിതവത്സലഃ //                                    /12 //

पश्चात्तपन्तं सुग्रीवं समाश्वास्य रघूत्तमः /

वानराणां अधिपतिं चकाराश्रितवत्सलः //                                    /१२ //

paśchāttapantaṁ sugrīvaṁ samāśvāsya raghūttamaḥ /

vānarāṇāṁ adhipatiṁ chakārāśRita vatsalaḥ //                                    /12 //

பஸ்²சாத்தபந்தம்ʼ ஸுக்³ரீவம்ʼ ஸமாஸ்²வாஸ்ய ரகூ⁴த்தம​: /

வானராணாம்ʼ அதி⁴பதிம்ʼ சகாராஸ்²ரிதவத்ஸல​: //                                    /12 //

SRee-rAma, who is compassionate to those who take refuge in Him, comforted sugreeva who was full of repentance (about causing the death of his brother BAli).  The Lord then anointed sugreeva as the king of the VAnara world.

തതോ മാല്യവതഃ  പൃഷ്ഠേ  രാമോ ലക്ഷ്മണസംയുതഃ /

ഉവാസ ചതുരോ  മാസാൻ സീതാവിരഹദുഃഖിതഃ //                                      /13 //

ततो माल्यवतः  पृष्ठे  रामो लक्ष्मणसंयुतः /

उवास चतुरो  मासान् सीताविरहदुःखितः //                                      /१३ //

tatō mālyavataḥ  pr̥ṣṭhē  rāmō lakṣmaṇa saṁyutaḥ /

uvāsa chaturō  māsān sītā viraha duḥkhitaḥ //                                      /13 //

ததோ மால்யவத​:  ப்ருʼஷ்டே²  ராமோ லக்ஷ்மணஸம்ʼயுத​: /

உவாஸ சதுரோ  மாஸான்ʼ ஸீதாவிரஹது³​:கி²த​: //                                      /13 //

After that event, SRee-rAma spent four months on top of the mountain MAlyavat with lakshmaNa, deeply grieving about His separation from SRee-seetA-dEvi.

അഥ രാമസ്യ നിർദേശാല്ലക്ഷ്മണോ  വാനരാധിപം /

ആനയത് പ്ലവഗൈഃ സാർദ്ധം  ഹനൂമത്പ്രമുഖൈർ ഗിരിം //                   /14 //

अथ रामस्य निर्देशाल्लक्ष्मणो  वानराधिपं /

आनयत् प्लवगैः सार्द्धं  हनूमत्प्रमुखैर् गिरिं //                   /१४ //

atha rāmasya niRdēśāllakṣmaṇō  vānarādhipaṁ /

ānayat plavagaiḥ sāRddhaṁ  hanūmat pRamukhaiR giriṁ //                   /14 //

அத² ராமஸ்ய நிர்ʼதே³ஸா²ல்லக்ஷ்மணோ  வானராதி⁴பம்ʼ /

ஆனயத் ப்லவகை³​: ஸார்ʼத்³த⁴ம்ʼ  ஹனூமத்ப்ரமுகை²ர்ʼ கி³ரிம்ʼ //                   /14 //

At the end of the four months, SRee-lakshmaNa brought sugreeva along with (= sARddham)  all the VAnara-s under the command of SRee-HanoomAn to the mountain (where the Lord was staying).

സുഗ്രീവോ രാഘവം ദൃഷ്ട്വാ  വചനാത്തസ്യ വാനരാൻ /

ന്യയുങ്ത  സീതാം അന്വേഷ്ടും ആശാസു ചതസൃഷ്വപി //                         /15 //

सुग्रीवो राघवं दृष्ट्वा  वचनात्तस्य वानरान् /

न्ययुङ्त  सीतां अन्वेष्टुं आशासु चतसृष्वपि //                         /१५ //

sugrīvō rāghavaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā  vachanāttasya vānarān /

nyayuṅta  sītāṁ anvēṣṭuṁ āśāsu chatasr̥ṣvapi //                         /15 //

ஸுக்³ரீவோ ராக⁴வம்ʼ த்³ருʼஷ்ட்வா  வசனாத்தஸ்ய வானரான்ʼ /

ந்யயுங்த  ஸீதாம்ʼ அன்வேஷ்டும்ʼ ஆஸா²ஸு சதஸ்ருʼஷ்வபி //                         /15 //

After meeting SRee-rAma, and according to His instructions, King sugreeva sent Vanara-s to all the for directions (=ASA)  in search of SRee-seetA.

തതോ ഹനുമതഃ പാണൗ ദദൗ രാമോ ഽ ങ്ഗുലീയകം /

വിശ്വാസായ തു വൈദേഹ്യാസ്തദ് ഗൃഹീത്വാ സ നിര്യയൗ //                         /16 //

ततो हनुमतः पाणौ ददौ रामो ऽ ङ्गुलीयकं /

विश्वासाय तु वैदेह्यास्तद् गृहीत्वा स निर्ययौ //                         /१६ //

tatō hanumataḥ pāṇau dadau rāmō ' ṅgulīyakaṁ /

viśvāsāya tu vaidēhyāstad gr̥hītvā sa niryayau //                         /16 //

ததோ ஹனுமத​: பாணௌ த³தௌ³ ராமோ (அ) ங்கு³லீயகம்ʼ /

விஸ்²வாஸாய து வைதே³ஹ்யாஸ்தத்³ க்³ருʼஹீத்வா ஸ நிர்யயௌ //                         /16 //

At that time, SRee-rAma gave His own ring to SRee-HanoomAn to show to SRee-seetA to create in Her trust (in HanoomAn's being a real emissary of Her Lord).  HanoomAn took the signet ring and embarked upon His quest for the Princess.

തതോ ഹനൂമത്പ്രമുഖാ വാനരാ ദക്ഷിണാം ദിശം /

ഗത്വാ സീതാം വിചിന്വന്തഃ പർവതം വിന്ധ്യം ആപ്നുവൻ //               /17 //

ततो हनूमत्प्रमुखा वानरा दक्षिणां दिशं /

गत्वा सीतां विचिन्वन्तः पर्वतं विन्ध्यं आप्नुवन् //               /१७ //

tatō hanūmat pRamukhā vānarā dakṣiṇāṁ diśaṁ /

gatvā sītāṁ vichinvantaḥ paRvataṁ vindhyaṁ āpnuvan //               /17 //

ததோ ஹனூமத்ப்ரமுகா² வானரா த³க்ஷிணாம்ʼ தி³ஸ²ம்ʼ /

க³த்வா ஸீதாம்ʼ விசின்வந்த​: பர்ʼவதம்ʼ விந்த்⁴யம்ʼ ஆப்னுவன்ʼ //               /17 //

After some time, the group of VAnara-s who were under the leadership of SRee-Hanooman who had gone to the southern direction searching for SRee-seetA  reached the Vinddhya Mountain.

സമയാതിക്രമാത്തത്ര ചക്രുഃ പ്രായോപവേശനം /

തേ ഽത്ര സമ്പാതിനാ പ്രോക്താം സീതാവാർത്താം ച  ശുശ്രുവു: //                      /18 //

समयातिक्रमात्तत्र चक्रुः प्रायोपवेशनं /

ते ऽत्र सम्पातिना प्रोक्तां सीतावार्त्तां च  शुश्रुवु: //                      /१८ //

samayātikRamāttatRa chakRuḥ pRāyōpavēśanaṁ /

tē 'tRa sampātinā pRōktāṁ sītāvāRttāṁ cha  śuśRuvu: //                      /18 //

ஸமயாதிக்ரமாத்தத்ர சக்ரு​: ப்ராயோபவேஸ²னம்ʼ /

தே (அ)த்ர ஸம்பாதினா ப்ரோக்தாம்ʼ ஸீதாவார்ʼத்தாம்ʼ ச  ஸு²ஸ்²ருவு: //                      /18 //

Because the time allotted for the VAnara platoon to complete the search had passed, (and as they had had not success,) they decided to perform PRAyOpavESam (= a spiritually undertaken form of suicide, which is allowed by principles of dhaRma).   Then they heard from the divine bird sampAti some news about SRee-seetA (that She had been taken to lanka across the ocean, which made them hopeful again).

തതഃ പ്രാപുരുദന്വന്തം അംഗദാദ്യാഃ പ്ലവങ്ഗമാഃ /

തം വിലങ്ഘയിതും തേഷാം ന കശ്ചിദഭവത്  ക്ഷമഃ //                  /19 //

ततः प्रापुरुदन्वन्तं अंगदाद्याः प्लवङ्गमाः /

तं विलङ्घयितुं तेषां न कश्चिदभवत्  क्षमः //                  /१९ //

tataḥ pRāpurudanvantaṁ aṁgadādyāḥ plavaṅgamāḥ /

taṁ vilaṅghayituṁ tēṣāṁ na kaśchidabhavat  kṣamaḥ //                  /19 //

தத​: ப்ராபுருத³ன்வந்தம்ʼ அங்க³தா³த்³யா​: ப்லவங்க³மா​: /

தம்ʼ விலங் க⁴யிதும்ʼ தேஷாம்ʼ ந கஸ்²சித³ப⁴வத்  க்ஷம​: //                  /19 //

After that meeting, VAnara-s such as an*gada reached the shores of the ocean.  But none of them felt that they (who were PLavan*gama-s = apes who could travel so fast that they appeared to be floating in air)  were capable of crossing the ocean (as it was so wide across)!!

സ്വപ്രഭാവപ്രശംസാഭിസ്തദാ ജാംബവദുക്തിഭിഃ /

സംവർദ്ധിതോ മഹേന്ദ്രാദ്രിം ആരുരോഹാനിലാത്മജഃ //                    /20 //

स्वप्रभावप्रशंसाभिस्तदा जांबवदुक्तिभिः /

संवर्द्धितो महेन्द्राद्रिं आरुरोहानिलात्मजः //                    /२० //

svapRabhāva praśaṁsābhistadā jāṁbavaduktibhiḥ /

saṁvaRddhitō mahēndrādriṁ ārurōhānilātmajaḥ //                    /20 //

ஸ்வப்ரபா⁴வப்ரஸ²ம்ʼஸாபி⁴ஸ்ததா³ ஜாம்ப³வது³க்திபி⁴​: /

ஸம்ʼவர்ʼத்³தி⁴தோ மஹேந்த்³ராத்³ரிம்ʼ ஆருரோஹானிலாத்மஜ​: //                    /20 //

Listening to JAmbavAn's words that praised SRee-HanoomAn's immense capabilities, (and becoming conscious of His own pedigree and power), Hanooman, the Son of God VAyu,  enlarged His body (through Yogic breathing and the blessing of His father), and climbed on top of the MahEndra Mountain (in order to take the leap across the ocean).  

    

ഇതി ശ്രീരാമോദന്തേ കിഷ്കിന്ധാകാണ്ഡഃ സമാപ്തഃ ||

इति श्रीरामोदन्ते किष्किन्धाकाण्डः समाप्तः ॥

  

 iti śRīrāmōdantē kiṣkindhākāṇḍaḥ samāptaḥ ||

இதி ஸ்ரீராமோத³ந்தே கிஷ்கிந்தா⁴காண்ட³​: ஸமாப்த​: || 

Thus ends the chapter called KishkkinddhA KANDam in the poem SRee-rAmOdantam  //
