അഭിവന്ദ്യാഥ സകലാൻ അമരാൻ പവനാത്മജഃ /
പുപ്ലുവേ ച ഗിരേസ്തസ്മാദ് വിലംഘയിതും അർണ്ണവം // /1 //
अभिवन्द्याथ सकलान् अमरान् पवनात्मजः /
पुप्लुवे च गिरेस्तस्माद् विलंघयितुं अर्ण्णवं // /१ //
abhivandyātha sakalān amarān pavanātmajaḥ /
pupluvē cha girēstasmād vilaṁghayituṁ aRṇṇavaṁ // /1 //
அபி⁴வந்த்³யாத² ஸகலான் அமரான் பவனாத்மஜ: /
புப்லுவே ச கி³ரேஸ்தஸ்மாத்³ விலங்க⁴யிதும்ʼ அர்ண்ணவம்ʼ // /1 //
After worshipping all the Gods, the son of God VAyu, SRee-HanoomAn, leaped from the mountain-top (into the sky) in order to cross the ocean. /1/
സ സമുല്ലംഘ്യ മൈനാകം സുരസാം അഭിവന്ദ്യ ച /
നിഹത്യ സിംഹികാം നീത്യാ പാരം പ്രാപ മഹോദധേഃ // /2 //
स समुल्लंघ्य मैनाकं सुरसां अभिवन्द्य च /
निहत्य सिंहिकां नीत्या पारं प्राप महोदधेः // /२ //
sa samullaṁghya mainākaṁ surasāṁ abhivandya cha /
nihatya siṁhikāṁ nītyā pāraṁ pRāpa mahōdadhēḥ // /2 //
ஸ ஸமுல்லங்க்⁴ய மைனாகம்ʼ ஸுரஸாம்ʼ அபி⁴வந்த்³ய ச /
நிஹத்ய ஸிம்ʼஹிகாம்ʼ நீத்யா பாரம்ʼ ப்ராப மஹோத³தே⁴: // /2 //
Crossing the sea-based mountain MainAkam, greeting surasA on the way, and destroying the demonic simhikA according to martial and ethical law, SRee-HanoomAn reached the other shore of the vast ocean. /2/
ലങ്കാധിദേവതാം ജിത്വാ താം പ്രവിശ്യാനിലാത്മജഃ /
സീതാം വിചിന്വന്നദ്രാക്ഷീന്നിദ്രാണം നിശി രാവണം // /3 //
लङ्काधिदेवतां जित्वा तां प्रविश्यानिलात्मजः /
सीतां विचिन्वन्नद्राक्षीन्निद्राणं निशि रावणं // /३ //
laṅkādhidēvatāṁ jitvā tāṁ pRaviśyānilātmajaḥ /
sītāṁ vichinvannadrākṣīnnidrāṇaṁ niśi rāvaṇaṁ // /3 //
லங்காதி⁴தே³வதாம்ʼ ஜித்வா தாம்ʼ ப்ரவிஸ்²யானிலாத்மஜ: /
ஸீதாம்ʼ விசின்வன்னத்³ராக்ஷீன்னித்³ராணம்ʼ நிஸி² ராவணம்ʼ // /3 //
There He encountered and defeated the hostile patron spirit of the city of lan*kA, and entered the environs of the city. While He was searching for SRee-seetA-dEvi, He saw the sleeping demon rAvaNa (inside his palace). /3/
അപശ്യംസ്തത്ര വൈദേഹീം വിചിന്വാനസ്തതസ്തതഃ /
അശോകവനികാം ഗത്വാ കശ്ചിദാർത്താം ദദർശ സഃ // /4 //
अपश्यंस्तत्र वैदेहीं विचिन्वानस्ततस्ततः /
अशोकवनिकां गत्वा कश्चिदार्त्तां ददर्श सः // /४ //
apaśyaṁstatRa vaidēhīṁ vichinvānastatastataḥ /
aśōka vanikāṁ gatvā kaśchidāRttāṁ dadaRśa saḥ // /4 //
அபஸ்²யம்ʼஸ்தத்ர வைதே³ஹீம்ʼ விசின்வானஸ்ததஸ்தத: /
அஸோ²கவனிகாம்ʼ க³த்வா கஸ்²சிதா³ர்த்தாம்ʼ த³த³ர்ஸ² ஸ: // /4 //
Searching for SRee-seetA, He wandered from here and there in lan*kA, and finally reached a garden of aSOka trees, where He saw a grieving lady (whose identity He was not fully sure about). /4/
പാദപം കശ്ചിദാരുഹ്യ തത്പലാശൈഃ സുസംവൃതഃ /
ആസ്തേ സ്മ മാരുതിസ്തത്ര സീതേയം ഇതി തർക്കയൻ // /5 //
पादपं कश्चिदारुह्य तत्पलाशैः सुसंवृतः /
आस्ते स्म मारुतिस्तत्र सीतेयं इति तर्क्कयन् // /५ //
pādapaṁ kaśchid āruhya tatpalāśaiḥ susaṁvr̥taḥ /
āstē sma mārutistatRa sītēyaṁ iti taRkkayan // /5 //
பாத³பம்ʼ கஸ்²சிதா³ருஹ்ய தத்பலாஸை²: ஸுஸம்ʼவ்ருʼத: /
ஆஸ்தே ஸ்ம மாருதிஸ்தத்ர ஸீதேயம்ʼ இதி தர்க்கயன் // /5 //
SRee HanoomAn reasonably guessed (from external signs) that the grieving lady could indeed be Lord rAma's wife, and so He climbed up a tree and sat there well concealed behind the foliage (after attaining a minute size using His Yogic siddhi-s and His father's blessing). /5/
രാവണസ്തു തദാഽഭ്യേത്യ മൈഥിലീം മദനാർദ്ദിതഃ /
"ഭാര്യാ ഭവ മമേ"ത്യേവം ബഹുധാ സമയാചത // /6 //
रावणस्तु तदाऽभ्येत्य मैथिलीं मदनार्द्दितः /
"भार्या भव ममे"त्येवं बहुधा समयाचत // /६ //
rāvaṇastu tadā'bhyētya maithilīṁ madanāRdditaḥ /
"bhāryā bhava mamē"tyēvaṁ bahudhā samayāchata // /6 //
ராவணஸ்து ததா³(அ)ப்⁴யேத்ய மைதி²லீம்ʼ மத³னார்த்³தி³த: /
"பா⁴ர்யா ப⁴வ மமே"த்யேவம்ʼ ப³ஹுதா⁴ ஸமயாசத // /6 //
At that time, the demonic rAvaNa rAkshasa entered that spot compelled by carnal desire, and repeatedly begged of SRee-seetA: "Marry me, Become my wife, !" /6/
"അഹം ത്വദ്വശഗാ ന സ്യാം" ഇത്യേഷാ തം നിരാകരോത് /
കാമമന്യുപരീതാത്മാ രാവണോ ഽപി ഗൃഹം യയൗ // /7 //
"अहं त्वद्वशगा न स्यां" इत्येषा तं निराकरोत् /
काममन्युपरीतात्मा रावणोऽपि गृहं ययौ // /७ //
"ahaṁ tvadvaśagā na syāṁ" ityēṣā taṁ nirākarōt /
kāmamanyuparītātmā rāvaṇō 'pi gr̥haṁ yayau // /7 //
"அஹம்ʼ த்வத்³வஸ²கா³ ந ஸ்யாம்ʼ" இத்யேஷா தம்ʼ நிராகரோத் /
காமமன்யுபரீதாத்மா ராவணோ (அ)பி க்³ருʼஹம்ʼ யயௌ // /7 //
"I will never be persuaded by you!" With these words, SRee-seetA refused rAvaNa's repeated proposals. With a mind full of (frustrated carnal) desire and (resulting) anger, the demon king rAvana returned home. /7/
നിർഗ്ഗതേ രാവണേ സീതാം പ്രലപന്തീം സ മാരുതിഃ /
ഉക്ത്വാ രാമസ്യ വൃത്താന്തം പ്രദദൗ ചാംഗുലീയകം // /8 //
निर्ग्गते रावणे सीतां प्रलपन्तीं स मारुतिः /
उक्त्वा रामस्य वृत्तान्तं प्रददौ चांगुलीयकं // /८ //
niRggatē rāvaṇē sītāṁ pRalapantīṁ sa mārutiḥ /
uktvā rāmasya vr̥ttāntaṁ pRadadau chāṁgulīyakaṁ // /8 //
நிர்க்³க³தே ராவணே ஸீதாம்ʼ ப்ரலபந்தீம்ʼ ஸ மாருதி: /
உக்த்வா ராமஸ்ய வ்ருʼத்தாந்தம்ʼ ப்ரத³தௌ³ சாங்கு³லீயகம்ʼ // /8 //
After rAvaNa had left, SRee-seetA started to weep. Sree-HanoomAn (revealed Himself from the foliage convinced that the lady was indeed SRee-seetA) and told Her all the news about Her Lord rAma and gave Her the Lord's signet ring (as proof of HanoomAn's own bona fides as SRee-rAma's messenger and to convince Her that He was not another magical trick of rAvaNa's). /8/
തത്സമാദായ വൈദേഹീ വിലപ്യ ച ഭൃശം പുനഃ /
ചൂഡാമണിം ദദൗ തസ്യ കരേ ജഗ്രാഹ സോ ഽപി തം // /9 //
तत्समादाय वैदेही विलप्य च भृशं पुनः /
चूडामणिं ददौ तस्य करे जग्राह सोऽपि तं // /९ //
tatsamādāya vaidēhī vilapya cha bhr̥śaṁ punaḥ /
hcūḍāmaṇiṁ dadau tasya karē jagrāha sō 'pi taṁ // /9 //
தத்ஸமாதா³ய வைதே³ஹீ விலப்ய ச ப்⁴ருʼஸ²ம்ʼ புன: /
சூடா³மணிம்ʼ த³தௌ³ தஸ்ய கரே ஜக்³ராஹ ஸோ (அ)பி தம்ʼ // /9 //
Taking SRee-rAma's ring in Her hands and weeping very sadly again (due to memories aroused by the ring), SRee-seetA took off Her dearChoodAmaNi (ornament worn at the parting of the hair), and gave it to SRee-HanoomAn (as proof of His having met Her to take to BhagavAn rAmachandra). /9/
"മാ വിഷാദം കൃഥാ ദേവി ! രാഘവോ രാവണം രണേ /
ഹത്വാ ത്വാം നേഷ്യതീ"ത്യേനാം ആശ്വാസ്യ സ വിനിര്യയൗ // /10 //
"मा विषादं कृथा देवि ! राघवो रावणं रणे /
हत्वा त्वां नेष्यती"त्येनां आश्वास्य स विनिर्ययौ // /१० //
"mā viṣādaṁ kr̥thā dēvi ! rāghavō rāvaṇaṁ raṇē /
hatvā tvāṁ nēṣyatī"tyēnāṁ āśvāsya sa viniryayau // /10 //
"மா விஷாத³ம்ʼ க்ருʼதா² தே³வி ! ராக⁴வோ ராவணம்ʼ ரணே /
ஹத்வா த்வாம்ʼ நேஷ்யதீ"த்யேனாம்ʼ ஆஸ்²வாஸ்ய ஸ வினிர்யயௌ // /10 //
SRee-HanoomAn comforted the Princess by saying, "DEvi, please do not be over-saddened! SRee-rAma BhagavAn will destroy rAvaNa in battle and will rescue You from here!" And then SRee Hanoomaan took leave of SRee-seetA. /10/
നീതിമാൻ സോ ഽപി സഞ്ചിന്ത്യ ബഭഞ്ജോപവനം ച തത് /
അക്ഷാദീനി ച രക്ഷാംസി ബഹൂനി സമരേ ഽവധീത് // /11 //
नीतिमान् सोऽपि सञ्चिन्त्य बभञ्जोपवनं च तत् /
अक्षादीनि च रक्षांसि बहूनि समरे ऽवधीत् // /११ //
nītimān sō 'pi sañcintya babhañjōpavanaṁ cha tat /
akṣādīni cha rakṣāṁsi bahūni samarē 'vadhīt // /11 //
நீதிமான்ʼ ஸோ (அ)பி ஸஞ்சிந்த்ய ப³ப⁴ஞ்ஜோபவனம்ʼ ச தத் /
அக்ஷாதீ³னி ச ரக்ஷாம்ʼஸி ப³ஹூனி ஸமரே (அ)வதீ⁴த் // /11 //
SRee-HanoomAn, who had a good knowledge of state-craft, thought a good deal about what course of action to take, and then destroyed the gardens. A battle followed (because of that action), in which SRee-HanoomAn killed rAvana's son aksha-kumAra and many other rAkshasa men.
തതഃ ശക്രജിതാ യുദ്ധേ ബദ്ധഃ പവനനന്ദനഃ /
പ്രതാപം രഘുനാഥസ്യ രാവണായ ന്യവേദയത് // /12 //
ततः शक्रजिता युद्धे बद्धः पवननन्दनः /
प्रतापं रघुनाथस्य रावणाय न्यवेदयत् // /१२ //
tataḥ śakRajitā yuddhē baddhaḥ pavana nandanaḥ /
pRatāpaṁ raghunāthasya rāvaṇāya nyavēdayat // /12 //
தத: ஸ²க்ரஜிதா யுத்³தே⁴ ப³த்³த⁴: பவனனந்த³ன: /
ப்ரதாபம்ʼ ரகு⁴னாத²ஸ்ய ராவணாய ந்யவேத³யத் // /12 //
Thereafter, rAvaNa's son named Indrajit tied up SRee-HanoomAn after a battle with Him (and took Him to rAvana-s court.) HanoomAn described to the demon how powerful and majestic Lord SRee-rAma was (hoping that the demon would return SRee-seetA peacefully to Her Husband). /12/
രക്ഷോദീപിതലാങ്ഗൂലഃ സ തു ലങ്കാം അശേഷതഃ /
ദഗ്ദ്ധ്വാ സാഗരം ഉത്തീര്യ വാനരാൻ സമുപാഗമത് // /13 //
रक्षोदीपितलाङ्गूलः स तु लङ्कां अशेषतः /
दग्द्ध्वा सागरं उत्तीर्य वानरान् समुपागमत् // /१३ //
rakṣōdīpitalāṅgūlaḥ sa tu laṅkāṁ aśēṣataḥ /
dagddhvā sāgaraṁ uttīrya vānarān samupāgamat // /13 //
ரக்ஷோதீ³பிதலாங் கூ³ல: ஸ து லங்காம்ʼ அஸே²ஷத: /
த³க்³த்³த்⁴வா ஸாக³ரம்ʼ உத்தீர்ய வானரான்ʼ ஸமுபாக³மத் // /13 //
SRee-HanoomAn's tail (was covered with oiled cloth and) was lighted by the rAkshasa-s (against the principle of an ambassador's immunity in a foreign country), yet using that very same light HanoomAn set fire to the whole city of lan*kA, re-crossed the ocean, and rejoined the platoon of VAnara-s (who were eagerly waiting for His return). /13/
സ ഗത്വാ വാനരൈഃ സാകം രാഘവായാത്മനാ കൃതം /
നിവേദയിത്വാ സകലം ദദൗ ചൂഡാമണിം ച തം // /14 //
स गत्वा वानरैः साकं राघवायात्मना कृतं /
निवेदयित्वा सकलं ददौ चूडामणिं च तं // /१४ //
sa gatvā vānaraiḥ sākaṁ rāghavāyātmanā kr̥taṁ /
nivēdayitvā sakalaṁ dadau chūḍāmaṇiṁ cha taṁ // /14 //
ஸ க³த்வா வானரை: ஸாகம்ʼ ராக⁴வாயாத்மனா க்ருʼதம்ʼ /
நிவேத³யித்வா ஸகலம்ʼ த³தௌ³ சூடா³மணிம்ʼ ச தம்ʼ // /14 //
SRee-HanoomAn reached Lord rAma's presence with the VAnara-s, and described to the Lord what He did during the trip and gave SRee-seeta's ChooDAmaNi (as proof of all events) to SRee-rAma. /14//
ഇതി ശ്രീരാമോദന്തേ സുന്ദരകാണ്ഡഃ സമാപ്തഃ ||
इति श्रीरामोदन्ते सुन्दरकाण्डः समाप्तः ॥
